Introduction to Krabi Travel Guide

Krabi is one of Thailand’s southern provinces, located on the Andaman Sea. Phang Nga, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Trang are neighboring provinces. Phuket Province is located to the west of Phang Nga Bay.

According to historical evidence, Krabi was formerly an ancient prehistoric community and was a minority community of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Kingdom. During King Rama II’s reign, people moved to settle and form a huge village, which was eventually renamed Mueang Kasai or Pakasai. Pakasai was elevated to the status of the city in 1872 by King Rama V, who granted it the name ‘Krabi’. It is said that the city got its name from the word ‘Krabi’, which means sword. This might be related to a claim that an old sword was discovered prior to the city’s establishment.

Krabi is well-known for its stunning landscape, beaches, and islands. Its coral reef sceneries are also among the most beautiful in the world, making it an ideal location for diving. Krabi also features a number of spectacular attractions, including hot springs, and sea caves. Krabi is also home to well-known island resorts including Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.
