Introduction to Chumphon Travel Guide

Chumphon is a southern province of Thailand on the Gulf of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are Prachuap Khiri Khan, Surat Thani, and Ranong. To the west it borders the Burmese province of Tanintharyi.

Chumphon is referenced in the tale of Phra That Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat as one of the Nakhon Si Thammarat towns. The name ‘Chumphon’ is made up of the words ‘Chum’ (meet) and ‘Phon’ (blessed). As a result, the province’s name translates as ‘a gathering of blessings’. Nevertheless, some historians believe the name was derived from ‘Chumnumpon’, which translates as ‘assembling the army’, because the location was known to be a frontier city.

Chumphon is a perfect destination for people who are seeking leisure in a natural and calm surroundings and who desire to take part in activities such as sunbathing, swimming, boating, paragliding, diving, and snorkeling.
