White Buddha Statues at Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew – Phetchabun Travel Guide
Introduction to Phetchabun Travel Guide
Phetchabun is situated in Thailand’s lower northwestern region. Loei, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Lopburi, Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, and Phitsanulok are neighboring provinces. The province is surrounded by lush green and fertile river valleys of the Pa Sak River and is ideal for those who enjoy being close to nature. Its terrain includes both the Khao Kho and Nam Nao National Parks, which offer stunning landscapes.
Phetchabun is thought to have existed in two periods. The ridge of the city wall and the location of the river in the city center indicate that the First Period occurs during the Sukhothai Kingdom. During the reign of King Narai the Great, the Second Period begins. There were brick and stone walls and fortresses at that period that were thought to be identical to those in Nakhon Ratchasima city, but smaller and lower. The river ran through the heart of the city. During both periods, Phetchabun was built in this manner to prevent attackers from the north from sneaking upon them. Phetchabun was once known as ‘Phetchabura’ or “Phichapura,” which meant ‘city of crops’.
