Introduction to Ubon Ratchathani Travel Guide

Ubon Ratchathani, commonly known as Ubon, is a Thai province located in the country’s lower northeastern region. Sisaket, Yasothon, and Amnat Charoen are neighboring provinces. Ubon Ratchathani borders Laos’ Salavan and Champasak to the north and east, and Cambodia’s Preah Vihear to the south.

In the late 1700s, a group of Lao princes escaping Vientiane founded Ubon Ratchathani on the north bank of the Mun River. They requested King Taksin’s protection, which was granted in 1779. During the Vietnam War, Ubon Ratchathani was a US air base and developed substantially during the time.

There are many interesting and beautiful places to visit in Ubon Ratchathani, such as Pha Taem National Park, which is famous for its prehistoric rock paintings, Sam Pan Boak, also known as the Thailand’s Grand Canyon, and Huai Sai Yai waterfall, which is known to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Northeastern Thailand.
