Introduction to Chanthaburi Travel Guide

Chanthaburi is a province in Thailand’s eastern region. Trat is to the east, and Rayong, Chonburi, Chachoengsao, and Sa Kaeo are to the west and north. Chanthaburi also shares borders with Cambodia’s Battambang and Pailin.

The initial immigrants were Khmer, who founded Chong in the 13th century. In 1767, King Taksin the Great traveled to the east of Siam and spent many months in Chanthaburi to gather an army to resist the Burmese soldiers who had invaded the nation. He won, and his men pushed the Burmese away. This is why there are various statues of King Thaksin scattered around the province.

The city center of Chanthaburi has a well-known gem market, where dealers from all over the world congregate every weekend to hustle and buy and sell. If you’re interested in emeralds, sapphires, and other valuable stones, a trip to this picturesque location is a must. It also boasts several gorgeous beaches and lush national parks.
